What’s Wrong with My Car?

If your vehicle won’t start, there are a few different possibilities that can be causing the problem:

  • If your battery is healthy but drained, it is likely a simple reason. Your battery is dead because you left the lights on or the door or something else was left on to drain your battery. The good news is this is a simple solution too. A jump start or a battery charger will send you on your way.
  • If your battery no longer holds a charge even after a jump start or connection to a charger, this is likely due to the age of the battery and that means you likely need a new battery. If you get a jump start and nothing happens, or if it does charge but dies again the next day, get your battery tested.
  • If your ignition system needs service (usually indicated by a dashboard warning), it’s not your battery. There is some sort of mechanical problem with the starting system preventing ignition, draining your battery, or keeping your battery from charging when you drive.

If It’s Not the Battery, Then What?
